How Much Do I Want To Spend on a UTV?
Start by making a budget. A price limit will allow you to automatically narrow your search to what you can afford. When making your budget, make sure that you factor in extra costs like maintenance and insurance. If there is a certain model that has all the features you want but is beyond your price range, look for a similar used model. Used models cost a fraction of the sticker price of a new UTV and many are still in excellent condition.
How Many Passengers Will I Have?
Too few seats in your side-by-side will mean taking multiple trips while purchasing a UTV with too many seats is a waste of money. Try to find a balance between the two and figure out exactly how many people you intend to transport at one time.
Where Will I Take the Side-by-Side?
Certain terrain types pose unique challenges to UTV riders, so look for models that will be able to handle whatever terrain you intend to regularly ride on. For example, if you plan to frequently ride over rocky terrain, a side-by-side with high ground clearance will be much less likely to be scratched and scraped by the ground, saving you money on repairs and maintenance.
How Will I Use the UTV?
Think about how you will use your UTV when looking at models. Farmers will likely need a side-by-side with a lot of towing power that is still compact enough to fit through fence gates and barn doors. Hunters will appreciate a model with a camouflage paint job and enough storage space to stow their gear. Landscapers should similarly look for a UTV that offers enough storage space to make transporting their tools and materials easier.
