Mudding offers an enjoyable alternative for those who want to try something different than a traditional ATV trail ride  However, mud consists of both dirt and water, both of which can damage your ATV if proper precautions are not taken. That is why Miller’s Motorsports has created this guide to preparing your ATV for mudding.

Snorkel Kits

The biggest risk to look out for is moisture getting into your engine. Even a little bit of water can kill your ATV’s engine if it gets inside, and since at times more than half of your vehicle may be submerged while mudding, this is a very real possibility. We highly recommend that you invest in a snorkel kit. These kits usually consist of extended air intakes, extended CVT inlets, and outlet exhausts. Installing them will help keep your ATV’s engine dry.

Mud Tires

Larger tires will generally be better for mudding since they help prevent the ATV from sinking. However, we recommend you install mud tires rather than just any large tires since mud tires have features like generously spaced lugs to help you maintain traction on muddy trails.

Mudguard Kits

Mudguard kits act as mud flaps for your ATV. Essentially, they are plastic fender extensions that help reduce spray and protect your four-wheeler from mud. Mudguard kits are particularly useful if you are riding with a group, as they allow you to ride closer together without spraying each other with muck.

We here at Miller’s Motorsports hope you enjoy your next ATV ride, whether you choose to go mudding or not.
