UTV Safety Guide
Utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), also known as side-by-sides, have become an extremely popular means of recreational and utilitarian transportation. Whether you’re looking to transport a work crew or take your family on an off-roading adventure, you’ll love the power and versatility of these agile vehicles. The side-by-side seating makes room for two to six riders, depending on the design, so you’ll never have to ride alone!
We want you and your crew (workers, friends, or family) to remain safe and sound on all your UTV rides. That’s why we’ve created this guide to UTV safety, so you can take the right precautions and be smart about how you ride.
Dress for Safe Riding
While your side-by-side resembles a passenger vehicle in some ways, it’s not exactly the same. Its steering wheel, gas and brake pedals, seatbelts, and partial enclosure may lead you to think that you’re as safe as you would be in your car, but keep in mind that you don’t have the full protection of a metal enclosure and you’ll be riding on difficult terrain. This means you need to wear certain pieces of safety gear to protect yourself in the event of a collision or rollover.
A well-fitting helmet, either of the motorcycle or motocross varieties, is the most essential piece of gear you’ll need. Every passenger should wear one. If your helmets lack face masks, invest in goggles to prevent debris from flying into your eyes. Wear long sleeves, pants, riding gloves, and sturdy ankle boots to protect your skin.
Keep Your UTV Maintained
UTVs, like any other vehicle, need regular maintenance to operate correctly. Keep up with the tasks listed in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Ensure that tires are properly inflated before every ride, oil is clean and topped off, your fuel tank is full, lights and signals work, and no rattling sounds can be heard. If you need professional assistance before your next ride, feel free to contact our service department.
